Joomla 3 to 4 Migration

Its time to upgrade your Joomla 3 website

If your Joomla website is still on version 3.## or lower, it is time to migrate to the newer Joomla 4.  Not only does Joomla 4 offer lots of features and improvements from earlier versions, support for Joomla 3 officially ends on 17 August 2023.  That means no more security upgrades unless you are using Joomla 4.

Joomla Upgrade Service

Do you need a Joomla expert to upgrade your old Joomla website to the latest release?  We offer a specialist Joomla Upgrade Service, have upgraded well over 100 Joomla websites from older versions and can do the same for your site.

Is Your Joomla Website Secure?

No website platform is 100% secure, but Joomla is one of the most secure CMS platforms available, so long as it is kept up to date.  When a Joomla website does get hacked it is almost always due to the Joomla cms or the site extensions not being kept up to date.

The Joomla developers release patches for security, bug fixes and software enhancements every month.  These updates will stop for Joomla 3 on 17 August 2023 though, which increases the risk for sites that have not been migrated.

How to Migrate Your Joomla Website Yourself

The advantage of using a cms like Joomla, is that you can do most things yourself if you have the time and want to learn  Tim Davis has created a great video on how to migrate Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 that I would recommend to anyone wanting to take the DIY approach.

Most website owners don't have the time or desire to do their own migration so we are offering our Joomla migration service which is based on 18 years of experience.  Yes, we have actually been around since Joomla 1.05 and have migrated literally hundreds of Joomla websites.

What We Do

Every Joomla website is different and that is why we don't offer a flat price, one size fits all migration solution.  If your website and the extensions are all up to date and Joomla 4 compatible, migration to Joomla 4 might take a couple of hours.  If we need to find replacement extensions or build a new template, it will take more time.

Our proven process includes the following steps:

  1. Analyse the site
  2. Make a full site backup
  3. Create a development platform so we can test every step in the migration before making changes on your live site
  4. Clean up the site by removing unused extensions and files
  5. Update templates and extensions
  6. Replace templates or extensions that are not supported in Joomla 4
  7. Move to Joomla 4
